How long does the scent last?
On most skin, 12+ hours. It lasts longest on damp skin right after a shower. Skin differs between people, so your result can be shorter or longer.
Is it greasy, and will it stain my clothes?
It absorbs in about a minute and leaves no shine. A small amount goes a long way. Rub it in and give it that minute before you get dressed.
Can I layer it with cologne?
Yes. Put the butter on damp skin after your shower, then use your cologne on top. If you are unsure, pick a butter close to the cologne you already wear.
Which scent should I pick?
Pick by notes and occasion. Savanna and Bleu Hour are fresh. Reverie sits in between. Rogue 540 and Oud Timber are warmer and deeper, and in our view they are the louder two. Avant is fruit and birch. The scent quiz will narrow it down, and the comparison page shows all six side by side.
How much should I use?
Start with less than you think you need. Rub a small amount between your palms and put it on your chest, neck and arms. You can add more, but you cannot take it off.
Will it melt in shipping?
It might go soft. Butter softens in heat, so a jar can soften in a hot delivery van. If it arrives soft, put it in the fridge and it firms back up.
What is in it?
The base is shea butter and cocoa butter, scented with fragrance. Bale is pheromone-infused: the formula contains a pheromone ingredient. We have not published the full ingredient list yet, so we are not naming the compound.
Why does my order come wrapped in a coffee sack?
Every order ships wrapped in a piece of a real coffee sack, cut by hand and tied with twine. The sacks carried coffee from growing regions all over the world, no two are alike, and a card inside tells you where yours came from. It is reused, not new, and it is yours to keep. None of the six scents smells of coffee.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Do a patch test first. Put a small amount on your inner arm and wait to see how your skin reacts. Bale is a fragrance product that also moisturizes. It is not medical skincare, and the American Academy of Dermatology advises gentle fragrance-free products for dry or sensitive skin. If you have a skin condition, ask your doctor.
